Materials You’ll Need:

To make your twine pumpkins, gather the following materials:

  • Natural jute or cotton twine
  • Scissors
  • Pipe cleaners or floral wire
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Twigs or cinnamon sticks (for stems)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Prep the Paper Towel Roll

Start by cutting a piece of twine that extends 1-2 inches beyond the ends of a paper towel roll. Secure both ends of the twine to the roll with tape to hold it in place.

Step 2: Begin Wrapping

Attach one end of the twine to the paper towel roll about 2 inches from one end with tape. Begin wrapping the twine around the roll, keeping the wraps snug but not too tight — this will make it easier to remove later. Ensure the twine wraps are close together to cover the paper towel roll completely. When you reach the opposite end of the roll, cut the twine, leaving a bit of extra length, and tape the cut end to the wrapped section of the tube.

Step 3: Shape Your Pumpkin

Carefully start sliding the twine loops off the paper towel roll, using the tape as a guide to prevent them from unraveling. Once you have removed the loops, discard the tape and gather the loops into a circular shape. Use the two loose ends of twine to tie the loops tightly together, just as you would when making a handmade pom-pom. Wrap the twine around and knot it securely 2-3 times to hold the loops in place.

Trim any excess twine. Then, use the two original pieces of twine that were taped to the roll, tying them around the loops as well, and snip the ends. Fluff out the loops with your fingers to form a round, pumpkin-like shape.

Step 4: Add the Cinnamon Stick Stem

Apply a small amount of glue to one end of a cinnamon stick and press it firmly onto the center of the twine pumpkin. Not only does the cinnamon stick serve as a charming stem, but it also releases a subtle, spicy fragrance, adding an extra touch of fall ambiance!

Crafting these twine pumpkins is a great way to get into the fall spirit and add a personal touch to your seasonal decorations. Plus, it’s a perfect activity to do with kids or friends. Gather your materials, set up a crafting station, and start creating your own charming pumpkins today!
