Leather is made from tanning or dressing the skin of an animal and the first known creation of leather from animal skins is from 2200 BCE. Traditionally, making leather involved drying the skins in the sun and then pounding the leather in animal fat to soften it. Leather is such an important discovery because traditionally people were able to warm themselves with leather and gain protection from the elements. There are four types of leather- full grain, top grain, genuine, split grain, and bonded leather. Our leather cord and strap can be used to make leather crafts and jewelry in any design.
