California Proposition 65
California’s Proposition 65, also called the California State Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act, was enacted in 1986. As part of the law, the state is required to publish a list of chemicals that are “known to the State of California to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity.” This list now contains over 800 chemicals. Even though the materials used in all Mandala Crafts products conform to all federal government regulations and all national product standards, California’s Prop 65 requires all businesses to provide a “clear and reasonable warning” if one or more listed chemicals may be present in the product, even if that chemical is present in trace quantities. In compliance with this law, a warning will appear on many Mandala Crafts products in the form of a label (see example below) on the product or its packaging.

California requires the following notice:
WARNING: Some dust created by power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling, and other construction activities contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. Some examples of these chemicals are:
- lead from lead-based paints,
- crystalline silica from bricks and cement and other masonry products, and
- arsenic and chromium from chemically treated lumber.
Your risk from exposure to these chemicals varies, depending on how often you do this type of work. To reduce your exposure, work in a well-ventilated area and with approved safety equipment, such as dust masks that are specially designed to filter out microscopic particles.
