How to Tie a Square Knot: Beginner Scoubidou Tutorial

If you’re new to scoubidou (also known as boondoggle), the square knot is a great place to start! It’s one of the most basic knots used in many scoubidou designs and is perfect for beginners.

What You’ll Need:

  • 2 scoubidou strands (plastic lace)
  • Scissors (optional)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Set Up Your Strands: Take two scoubidou strands of different colors. Lay them in a cross, one strand horizontally and the other vertically.

2. Start the First Knot: Take the left end of the horizontal strand and place it over the vertical strand. Now take the right end and lay it over the left, forming a loop.

3. Weave the Vertical Strand: Grab the top end of the vertical strand and place it over the horizontal strand. Then, take the bottom end and bring it up through the loop you just made.

4. Tighten the Knot: Gently pull all four ends to tighten the knot. You should see a square pattern forming.

5. Repeat: Keep tying more square knots by following the same steps to continue building your scoubidou.

Pro Tip:

Make sure to pull the strands evenly so your square knot stays neat and flat. Practice makes perfect! Once you’ve mastered the square knot, you can use it in various scoubidou projects, from keychains to bracelets.

Keep practicing, and soon you’ll be creating complex designs!

Happy crafting!
